Supporters Trust - About the trust
Telford United Supporters Ltd (the Trust) is registered as an Industrial and Provident Society, registered number 29745R, which provides for the wholly democratic and transparent ownership of AFC Telford United. AFC Telford United are one of a select few clubs that are owned by their supporters. Others are Chesterfield City, York City, Exeter City, AFC Wimbledon, Enfield Town and Clydebank.
It was set up in May 2004 to replace the Telford United Independent Supporters Association (TUISA). At a TUISA EGM 24th May 2004, the members voted to wind up the supporters association and transfer all membership and funds to the new Society.
On Friday 28th may 2004, the Society formally established AFC Telford United, following the liquidation of Telford United Football Club on the previous day. The Society holds 100% of the shares in AFC Telford United.
Telford United Supporters Limited is a limited liability company. Every member owns and can only own one share with a value of £1 in the Trust. As such, the Society is fully democratic and every member is entitled to a single vote on all motions. These shares cannot be traded or transferred. Once individual membership ceases the share registered in the name of that member will be cancelled and the amount subscribed for the value of the share becomes the property of the Trust.
Shares carry no right to interest, dividend or bonus. Although we can sell shares in AFC Telford United, we will always hold the majority shareholding in the club.
Membership is open to any person, corporate body or firm who is a supporter of the club, or has an interest in the game of football in the area, and who agrees to be bound by the rules of the Trust. The Constitution contains machinery for expulsion of members under appropriate circumstances and reserves the Board's right to refuse membership applications.
The primary objective of the Society is to support and raise funds for AFC Telford United. The Society has stated that it will always remain the majority shareholder of AFC Telford United.
