Date: Saturday 9th February 2013 - Kick Off: 10:00
District Schools League
| Telford Schools | 5 | vs | 2 | Brierley Hill |
Telford 5 Brierley Hill 2
In a game that only went ahead due to the hard work of parents who forked and brushed away the standing water, Telford overcame a spirited Brierely HIll side, on a pitch which was extremely difficult to play passing football.
Telford had three debutants in Lewis Mackenzie, Liam Robinson and Tristan Enever, and all performed really well and integrated into the side very well. Telford lined up with Joe Kennedy
in goal and a back four of Lewis Dorey, Owen Taylor, Marshall Meredith and Lewis M Mackenzie. The holding midfield was Dan Naylor and Lee Brough, with Benjy Robinson and Lewis A Mackenzie wide and Dan Frances supporting Ryan Bright up front.
Telford led 3-2 at half time with two goals from Ryan Bright and one from Dan Frances. There was a lack of fluidity in the quick passing game which is normally seen from the side however the Telford management were more disappointed by conceding goals from a player not being marked at a corner kick and lack of pressure on the ball allowing a shot on goal.
Telford lost Lewis Dorey at half time with a stiff hamstring, but the second half performance showed the dominance of a Telford side that showed not only good passing, but they used their physicality to overpower Brierley Hill in the half. There were a number of missed chances, but with Joe only having to make one save in the second half the team showed the ability they have. All the substitutes, Dan McGee, Liam Robinson, Tristan Enever and Will Evans showed up well and it was good to be able to show that the lads can adapt to changes in the game. The movement in the second half was a lot better and the ability to get the ball wide allowed second half goals from Dan Frances and Benjy Robinson.
Many of the players were tried in different positions today and all the lads produced a performance that they can be proud of and showed the confidence and spirit in the squad.
Thanks to the parents who helped with the nets, and especially Jeff Naylor doing groundsman duties.
Squad: Benjy Robinson, Tristan Enever, Dan Frances, Dan McGee, Dan Naylor, Joe Kennedy, Lee Brough, Lewis Dorey, Lewis A MacKenzie, Lewis M MacKenzie, Marshall Meredith, Liam Robinson, Owen Taylor, Ryan Bright, Will Evans
